As a High Schooler, Tom was one of Western New York's finest three sport athletes. Accepted a basketball/baseball scholarship to Syracuse University. Played on the basketball team that featured current SU coach Jim Boeheim and NBA Hall of Famer Dave Bing. In one of the seasons the Orange just missed going to the Final Four when they narrowly lost to Duke in the Eastern Regional Final. There was a movie made about that Final Four called Glory Road, the year Texas Western beat Kentucky in the final.
Tom was also the #1 pitcher on the SU baseball team.
Tom also parented a 7th & 8th Grade youth basketball player. His son DJ Bedz played on a team called the Boulder All Stars
back in the old Mile High League along with notables Carlos Daniel and Elton Davis. Soon after, he founded Colorado Youth Basketball and became the managing partner of the Mile High League.
He also coached as a Varsity Assistant at Boulder HS. One of the teams he coached won the then very rugged Centennial League. The same team lost in the semifinals of the State Tournament. Got upset by a team they had beaten twice in the regular season.
As you can tell, Tom has been a player, parent, coach and now an administrator. It's easy to see why CYB has become a leader in Youth Basketball Development and the main reason why the CYB Premier League is the best in the State.
